About the Author
Susan is a nutrition researcher with a strong academic and research background in human biology and nutritional sciences. She holds an Honours Bachelor of Science with a double major in Human Biology and Health Studies, as well as a Master of Science in Nutritional Sciences from the University of Toronto.
As a recipient of the prestigious Canadian Graduate CIHR Scholarship, Susan’s research in neonatal nutrition and exploratory observations of arginine metabolism for total parenteral nutrition (TPN)-fed neonates has been recognized for its significant contributions to the neonatal field. Her work has been published in the Journal of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition and presented at esteemed conferences, including the American Society of Nutrition conference in Boston, MA and the Peter Gilgan Centre for Research and Learning in Toronto, ON.
With over 3 years of research experience at The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids), Susan specialized in infant nutrition for TPN-fed neonates, working alongside dieticians, neonatologists, pediatricians, and nurses in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). Her expertise also extends to Gastroenterology and Hepatology.
In addition to her research, Susan has a passion for education and mentorship. She served as both an undergraduate and graduate teaching assistant at the University of Toronto, guiding students in various nutrition and biology-related courses. She was also a peer mentor, helping students navigate their academic journeys. Her dedication to learning and excellence was further demonstrated when she placed third in a national Medical Terminology competition among several Canadian universities.
Beyond academia, Susan has been an active volunteer at the Scarborough Health Network (SHN) for over six years, assisting in the surgical department.
Susan founded NutriNom to bridge the gap between scientific research and everyday nutrition. Her goal is to provide evidence-based knowledge, practical dietary advice, and healthy recipes that promote positive eating habits, weight management, and overall well-being across all ages. Through NutriNom, she strives to empower individuals with the tools they need to make informed, health-conscious decisions for a better quality of life.
